Somalia: Six Dead as Car Bomb Targets Restaurant Near Mogadishu Seaport
At least six killed and five others after a suspected suicide car bomb targeted a busy restaurant opposite Mogadishu Seaport on Wednesday afternoon, local News.
According to an eyewitness at a nearby building, a car loaded with explosives hit outside the restaurant where seaport workers and security forces usually eat in the daytime.
Initial reports said that the car seemed to be driven by a suicide bomber who then blew it up.
A police officer Capt. Ali Hussein at the scene said the emergency teams now reached the scene to assist the victims.
Benadir Regional Administration spokesman Abdifatah Halane says the officials are now investigating the blast scene and that there will be briefing to the media.
Roads to the seaport were blocked as roars of ambulances were heard.
It was not immediately clear who the initial target of the attack was as the militant group Al-Shabab frequently takes credit of such bombings in the capital.
The Mogadishu blast comes after a suicide bomber targeted a military checkpoint killing at least five in Bosasso, the Red Sea port town in Somalia’s Northeastern state of Puntland on Tuesday evening.
