Somali military officials in Mogadishu on Saturday displayed five soldiers arrested while setting up a roadblock between the capital and KM50 in Lower Shabelle region.
In a press conference at the Defense Headquarters in Mogadishu on Saturday, General Abdullahi Ali Anod warned that armed men purporting to be government forces and looting civilians should face harsh punishment.
“All those who are armed be them registered soldiers or those purporting to be soldiers will not escape from the justice. We will deal with them harshly.” General Anod said.
The five men were displayed together with their government-distributed AK47 rifles.
The leading military General said officers were given instructions to deal against looters and those setting up roadblocks on the main roads where the follow of civilians and business were disrupted.
His comments came following President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s pledge in last week in which he instructed security officials to end the roadblocks menace after the President visited Afgoye town where residents raised the issue with the President.
Recently there have been reported road blocks by armed groups, some of government forces looting passengers and extorting money from farmers.
